On November 21st, the 20th anniversary commemorative seminar of the joint graduate program between Tsinghua University and Science Tokyo (formerly Tokyo Institute of Technology) was held. Professor Yang Bin, Vice President of Tsinghua University; Professor Kamachi Toshiaki, Vice President of Science Tokyo; Mr. Nako Manabu, Counsellor of the Embassy of Japan in China; department leaders and professors in the fields of biological science and engineering, nanotechnology, humanities, social sciences, and psychology from Tsinghua University and Science Tokyo; guests from JSPS and JST in Japan; and more than 100 alumni of the program participated in the event. The seminar was chaired by Professor Zhang Chong from the Department of Chemical Engineering, who serves as the Chairman of the Chinese Executive Committee of the program.
Professor Yang Bin congratulated the joint graduate program on its 20th anniversary. He emphasized that the successful establishment of the program has not only strengthened the collaboration between the two universities in talent cultivation but also played a significant bridging and demonstrative role in academic exchanges, cooperative research, and cultural communication. Tsinghua University will continue to uphold the spirit of openness, cooperation, and sharing, working closely with Science Tokyo to further deepen collaboration, enhance talent development and academic innovation, and contribute wisdom and strength to the building of a community with a shared future for mankind.

Professor Inohara Takehiro, the Chairman of the Project Executive Committee, read the speech delivered by the Chairman of Science Tokyo, Otake Naoto. In his speech, Chairman Otake highlighted that as the first international joint dual master's degree program in Japanese universities, the program has undergone a 20-year development journey since its launch in 2004. This initiative not only provides students with the opportunity to earn master's degrees from two top universities in China and Japan but also enables them to gain cutting-edge professional knowledge and broaden their international perspectives under the guidance of leading professors from both countries. Looking ahead, students from this program will play an even more active role in their respective professional fields, leveraging their global outlook.

They expressed their gratitude to the faculty and staff who have made tremendous efforts to ensure the smooth operation of the program and extended their wishes for its continued growth and success in the future.

Subsequently, the event transitioned into the free exchange and roundtable forum segment. The attending experts engaged in a lively discussion on the theme of "International Graduate Education for the Future: Focusing on Sino-Japanese Joint Training." They emphasized that, for the future development of joint graduate programs, Tsinghua University and Science Tokyo should further expand their dual-round cooperation in talent cultivation and scientific research, explore innovative approaches, and build a multi-level platform for joint student training. This initiative aims to cultivate more outstanding talents with international perspectives who are aligned with the demands of the times, thereby contributing to the friendly exchanges and mutual development of China and Japan.

The joint graduate program between Tsinghua University and Science Tokyo (formerly known as the Tokyo Institute of Technology) was first launched in 2004. Over the past two decades, through the collaborative efforts of both universities, the program has facilitated the exchange of 255 students and nearly 250 faculty members in fields such as life sciences and engineering, nanotechnology, and humanities and social sciences. It has successfully cultivated a group of outstanding young talents who are proficient in both languages and cultures, possess global innovation capabilities, and are actively contributing to various industries. This initiative has significantly strengthened high-level cooperation between the two universities in international talent cultivation and has served as a leading model for academic exchanges, collaborative research, and cultural dissemination. Looking ahead, the Tsinghua University-Science Tokyo Joint Graduate Program will continue to cultivate exceptional talents who are not only aligned with the demands of the times but also capable of leading the way, making even greater contributions to the development of China, Japan, and the world at large.
